Hello!

Let’s go back to the summer of 2020. I want to tell you about our trip to the Lofoten, Norway. I wish that you get some inspiration if you want to travel some day to Lofoten.

We had been planning the trip for a long time. When the corona virus came, it worried me. As the trip began to approach, it started to feel wrong that we were leaving when some virus is spreading worldwide. But in 2020 the virus was just beginning, back then mask were not needed yet and the future was not known. Luckily, everything went well in our trip.

When the trip began

On the first day we drove from Kuusamo to Kilpisjärvi which was about 600 kilometers. The day was very long because we had working days behind us. When we got to Kilpisjärvi, the whole place was full of people. All campsites were full. So, we drove the car to a remote place and we slept in our car. It was nice, because my boyfriend had built a bed in the car trunk. In our trip we always had two options: either sleep in a car or in a tent.

Next morning, we continued our trip to the Norway. We drove from Kilpisjärvi to Å which was about 600 kilometers. On the way I fell in love. I have never seen more beautiful scenery. The mountains and all the views, oh God, I wish I was there. My heart stayed there.

In the destination

We stayed in the Lofoten a couple of days. We stayed at a campsite called Moskenes Camping on the Sørvågen. It was lovely place. We slept in a tent. The campsite was quite new, there was for example great shower facilities and a bar. The ocean was right next and the scenery was great. The weather was very variable: it rained and the sun was shining and it rained and… Luckily, I had a raincoat with me!

In the Lofoten we toured the villages and we climbed to the mountain called Reinebringen. The Reinebringen is located in Reine and it is one of the highest mountain in Lofoten, about 450 meters high. We went up above 1700 steps! The wind was very hard on top of the mountain. The scenery was breathtakingly beautiful.

On our way home

Our last night at Norway, we stayed at Brennfjell Camping. It was a little, quite nice campsite near Kilpisjärvi. The campsite owner was a finnish man, so it was really nice to change the thoughts about our trip with the owner. It was about 40 kilometers away from Kilpisjärvi. Then in the next morning, we drove to Finland. Our trip last night we stayed hotel at Levi. And then we drove to Kuusamo. When we got home we had 2500 kilometers of driving behind us and lots of great memories.

A new trip, yes please!

Since then, when we came back home, I have been dreaming about a new trip to Lofoten. In the 2020 summer, we had only few days free from work. I hope that next time we have more time to be there longer, because it takes at least a week to get to know the place properly. I really hope that this corona virus situation ends soon. I want to travel to Norway again as soon as possible.

  1. Hi Elle! You are so lucky to get so beautiful place as Lofoten. I have visited Norway a couple of times and I just love it. In summer 2019 I visited Kilpisjärvi and Skibotn. I really would like to visit Lofoten some day.

    1. Hi Noora!

Thanks for your comment and beautiful words!

Now when you mentioned Skibotn, I remembered that the Brennfjell Camping was in there. It was the place where we stayed the last night in Norway.

I hope that you will soon be able to visit Lofoten Islands!

      With best regards,
      Elle
