  • Event Marketing Basics

  • Creating A Brand
  • Content Marketing

  • Social Media Marketing
  • Creating A Community
  • Advocacy Marketing
  • Conclusion

The eBook was very interesting and a good choice to me, because I have planned and implemented different events last two years on the student board in RetRo, and with this textbook it will be much easier in the future.

Topics and opinions

Next I will tell you shortly in my opinion couple most interesting points from the text. First I tell about topic and then I tell my opinion about that.

Setting goals

The event won´t succeed if you do not know how to measure it or what are your goals. In the textbook have essential and excellent characteristics of successful marketing S.M.A.R.T. goals.

  • Specific – Articulating your event goals more specific.
  • Measurable – Creating goals that can be quantified.
  • Actionable – Setting competitive goals to make the most out of the event.
  • Reasonable – Measuring goals results and not activities.
  • Time Sensitive – Creating a timeline for goals and analyze how it develop.

In my opinion, these five characteristics are convenient in the beginning when planning events and very good tool for event organizers. When I planned some student events in Rovaniemi with my student friends, we used similar tool to plan those events last year, for example Party and the Hipsutus.

Creating Community

Second point was how important creating a community for event planners. Having a community is a must-have aspect, if you organize many events per year and have any long-term event marketing process. There are three stages in the creating of community:

  • Stage 1. Before the event – for example buying tickets or registering.
  • Stage 2. During the event – making new connections and having face-to-face meetings.
  • Stage 3. After the event – Keeping in touch with event attendees with email newsletters, contests, and surveys.

In my opinion, three different stages in the community are good to know and how to use those stages. When I planned student events, I used all stages in the event planning and it was very useful. Before the event, we started marketing event in different social medias platforms and customers bought tickets for event and after the event, we made surveys and we sent it to customers emails. We had also small event team, who helped us while planning and implementing events.

Social Media Marketing

Third and last point was how effective element social media marketing is in the event marketing. When it used properly, it has possible to engage your exiting audience while reaching a wider audience. There is lots of different channels to use, and it´s important to choose a right platform that your attendees and potential attendees currently use.

In my opinion, social media marketing is the best element of marketing. Today less and less people aren´t using newspapers or reading it on paper, because you can find that news in your mobile on internet. I use every day social media and I see lots of commercial advertising on Instagram and Facebook, and it is good habit to engage new audience.

Results

Main results from the text in my opinion, were that be sure to create an event networking community prior to the event, create content for your event website and understanding your audience. I learned in the text that how many different social media channels you can use in the marketing and to attract a broader audience. The text impact more my knowledge of event community, that keep going until well after event day so that you have an audience for other future events.
