Hi everyone! I’m Yuiri, an exchange student from Japan. Do you like to study at Starbucks, sipping cappuccino? Or do you like to chat with your friends and do nothing at a local coffee shop? I love to do so, and I’d like to share my favorite time spent at cafés with you. I’m going to tell you about my favorite cafes in Rovaniemi and Akita, where I lived in Japan.

The reason why I love cafes

Why I love cafés is not only because I like coffee and sweets. But why I love it is because there are people of different ages and jobs there. Especially in busy semesters, I rarely talk with new people who are not university students or teachers. And I often feel that it might make my view narrower. When I feel that way, I go to cafes to feel different lives and people that I do not know yet. Even if I don’t talk with them, I can feel that my current problem may not be that important when I become older.

I came to Rovaniemi last month, and I’m trying to find good cafes now. I went to Hostel and Café KOTI in the city center with my friend last week. It was a lovely time!

I ordered a cupcake and caramel latte. I was relaxed and felt that I wanted to stay there longer. There weren’t too many seats there, so we had comfortable space around compared to typical Japanese cafes.

I would like to visit there again maybe with some readings.

Akaibunko (Akita)

This is my favorite café in Akita. It is near my home university, so I often visit there alone or with friends.

The main feature of this café is that there are various books (from academic astronomy publishing to picture books), and you can read them freely.

Moreover, many lovely retro clocks are pointing at random times on the wall. This design makes customers forget their busy lives outside the space. And of course, dishes and coffee are great!

Thank you for reading my first blog post.
If you know nice cafes in Rovaniemi, please tell me in the comment!
