My issue was very interesting. It was about social media trends in 2021 and beond. Article itself was very long, and had a lot of information. I tried to pick up some interesting things for this essey.
Social media trends in 2021
During the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a increase of remixing on a platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels and Koji. Remixing is the art of taking existing ideas, templates or formats and to express a user’s own ideas or personality, and
recreate them. Basically anyone could take a trend, and recreate it with remixing. Turn it to something new. (Social trends 2021,4).
I have to say, that I’m so old, that I son’t even understand what it means. Perhaps I should ask millenials or generation Z about it.
The four Cs of COVID-19 content are Community, Contactless, Cleanliness and Compassion. Over the coming year, the four Cs should shape brand communications. Brands will be communicating more with they consumers, analyzing conversations to understand their concerns. That way they can tagle to these issues more effectly. (Social trends 2021,8).
People still are worried and scared, and a pandemic left a mark on each and every one of us. Companies should take a note to that, and think carefully about their marketing strategy. Show compassion, share moments, tell stories, be present. Show that you care.
Memetic media. Forget the GIF’s and emojis. People communicate with memes now. They are not all just positive and cute, so you have to protect your brand from memes. (Social trends,13)
Click here to see example of a bad or negative meme, what is funny nevertheless. Would you buy an iPhone5?
I think memes are funny, but people are using them alot for mindcontrolling or influencing about various topics. When selling a product, make sure it’s a good one…
Nostalgia marketing. People are struggling in their everyday lives, so when trying to not to think about that, they’re remembering the ”good old days”, even they weren’t that good. Nostalgia marketing was used in the past too, for exemple during in the 1920’s depression. If you connect a positive memory to your brand, and make consumer feel good, you will build an emotional relationship with him/her. Then they’re thinking that your brand is a good brand. (Social trends,17).
I tried to think about an exemple of this kind of marketing, and couldn’t think about anything but clothes or decorating.
What do I think all about this? I think in 2022 these social media trends are still growing, especially nostalgia marketing and meme’s. We see new memes every week, but not much of them are used in positive marketing. They are more about influencing, I think. Nostalgia marketing is hand in hand with nostalgia thinking and momories. For example, Queen Elizabeth II just passed away. Magazines are full of stories about what happend in 1950’s, -60’s, -70’s and so on. They’re taking us back to the ”good old days”, even when most of the potential readers weren’t born yet at those days. I think, that reliability and trust are more and more relevant and important values, that are going to be used in marketing as well as in the daily interactions with other people. World is in chaos in 2022, and people need warm relationships. They need honest conversations even with marketing companies, and authorities, too.
