This is a blog about my latest day excursion to Kapsajoki. How to access it, is it for everybody?
Where is kapsajoki?
Kapsajoki is a 45 minute drive from Sirkka towards Pokka.
From A to Z
The plan was to start from our office In Levi, jump in the van with a kayaks and canoes in tow. With the van we drove to Korpela bridge that is roughly a 45 minute drive from Levi center. Usually this trip takes from anywhere from 4h to 6h depending on the water level. The route it self is 19km from Korpela bridge to Lintula bridge. In Korpela bridge we unpacked all the gear and I did a short introduction to paddling for the customers. We set off after the introduction and the customers had a change to get hang of the equipment. Some of them had some previous experience paddling, but this was way back. Around the midway we had a break, made a fire, fried some sausages, had sandwiches and sweet rolls.

The profile of Kapsajoki
Kapsajoki is a medium hardness river for paddling. Not really recommended for first timers. The first half is usually really easy and the second half has some whitewater and usually takes at least twice as long as the first half.

On the way
We saw a lot of different kinds of birds birds, moose and reindeer on the way. The moose actually swam across the river. A shame I didn’t manage to get a picture. Water level was pretty good; The kayaks didn’t have any issue since they swim so shallow, but canoe got stuck here and there.

Final words
We managed to complete the journey safely and the customers seemed to be pleased. I also tried to spark interest in paddling for them. Maybe they will join their local paddling club. Who knows.
