Local greeting
The general atmosphere in Hawaii is very relaxed and friendly mostly due to the surfing culture. People greet each other with this hand sign called shaka. It’s when you have your hand in a fist but you extend your thumb and pinky out. The meaning of the hand gesture is “hang loose” and it’s just a friendly way of greeting someone.
