Studying in Lapland University of Applied Sciences has been a helpful experience for me as a private entrepreneur. When I started my business, I wasn´t supposed to offer any kind of experiences. I was thinking to offer visualization and set design services to other travel companies.
I started to get acquainted with tourism in vocational school. From the beginning it was important to me to start a network for me in traveling business. I thought that in school it would be easy to find people who are connected in the business. During the studies I found out, there is a huge lack of service products in this area.
At the same time studying in the vocational school I had opportunity to accomplish a course of a tourist guide.
Today I am offering walking tours, bike tours and minivan trips in Oulu region.
Oulu region is not yet formed to a tourist attraction. Of course, there are travelers for business and leisure, lots of exchange students and even congress visitors. Especially the private visitors can´t find the services easily at the moment.
So, what are the benefits in studying for me?
- Building a network for me with teachers and other students.
- Find a possible business companions.
- Learn the theory and concepts within traveling after doing them in live.
- Get to study the system of digital business of traveling.
It has been a great experience for me to learn to understand how the traveling business works! I have been doing things, but I have not been able to know why I do them. Even though I have had experts to help me to design my products or to build my webpages and social media platforms, I couldn´t understand the connections and meaning of these systems.
Now that I have studied one and a half year, I find the world of traveling lot more familiar. Also, it has been possible to do many of the tasks in school for my own company. I truly am pleased for everything I have accomplished in my studies.
