This blog reaction paper is based on GWI report about megatrends and people behavior study of 2023. The name of the report is: Connecting the dots, wich is pretty clever headline, for this kind of text that gives you helpful information for example as an entrepreneur or as a marketing specialist to connect the dots considering on customer behavior. Also the graphic design of the report is built to back the headline as there are many physical dot markers in the text.

The report is formed of five different headers which all include topics that is trending in customer behaviour field. The topic headlines are:

Headlines are catchy prahes wich are designed to attract young readers. Up to date information is always interesting so that is also one reason why this report caught my eye. We are now also in the middle of many crises, that affect to all the people around the world. This report shows what are the effects and side effects of for example global warming, wars and etc.

Boomers & Millenials

Interesting about this report is also see data about the differences in behavior between generations. There are surveys that show te answers of Millenials and Baby boomers side by side. Let’s take the consuming priority survey for an example. Millenial male and female habits differ a lot, female millenials consume most money to clothing and beauty products whilist millenial men spend to electornic products and delivery food. But when we take a look of boomer spending habits the differences are not so gender related anymore and the list seem so much more even. (Connecting the dots, 36)

This information can be very helpful for service companies when they draft their customer segment and marketing strategies.

Buy now, save the planet later

The most important theme of this text is the large scale studies where GWI has done a ton of survey studies to collect the data of billions of people. So you really get a glance at what all the other people think. Sometimes the truth is more ruthless than you wish for. For example, the enviroment part of the text was depressing to read. The headline of that part was: Buy now, save the planet later, wich gives a good introduction of the mindset of majority of people in the world. There is a survey where the question was following: Helping the enviroment is important for me. 1 important, 0 not important. Nearly all the countries participated in that survey had the score of average +-0,5 and it has gone down past few years. Egypt for example has score of 0,2, so clearly the people there don’t care about the enviroment. Where is this world going.

Megatrends & market

In this ever-changing world, it has become more and more important to keep an eye on trends and micro events happening abroad because nearly every business is now global and people are more impatient than ever. So companies must adapt and develop their marketing, sales, and social media all the time, to stay above the surface and survive in this hectic world. Connecting the dots is definitely a must-read for everybody working or studying business or the tourism industry. It is a good eye-opener.
