I wanted to write a blog post about studying and working at the same time, because I think it’s very interesting topic and concerns about me at the moment and many others too. It’s never too late to get inspired about studying. But how it is managed, studying while working?

Handling a full time job and your studies at the same time requires a good level of planning and prioritization. While some students would choose not to work while furthering their education, there is a massive group of students who are balancing a job while studying for a degree. There are various reasons for this, but generally speaking, money is key.

Here are a few tips how to study while working.

1. Planning

Writing your essay the night before is the last thing you want to do. Your studies requires full engagement and concentration. So, prioritizing and planning is your best protection against deadlines. Use good journal or calendar or write your tasks down and make a to-do list. Making the effort to keep track of your assignments will not only remind you to complete them on time, but also give you a sense of accomplishment.

2. Keep your employer updated

Should you decide to work during your studies, it’s important to maintain a good relationship with your manager. Communicate openly and honestly how you are handling everything. Studying is demanding enough as it is, so make sure you are straightforward about your availability and state any concerns you might have. Will it be too much work for you? Be aware of this, and don’t overextend yourself. If you don’t have enough time to commit a part-time job, there are other ways to work too, for example a weekend job.

3. Use your time wisely

If you are studying and working at the same time, it may seem that you have no free time at all. It’s important that you use the free time that you do have constructively as this will help you balance your day job and your course work more effectively. Study in short periods with breaks to ensure you stay focused and avoid procrastination. Turn off social media or other distractions, and prepare some snacks for example. Getting away of distractions and using incentives will help you get your studies done faster. And by doing this, you’ll have more time to relax.

4. Taking care of yourself

Remaining healthy both physically and mentally is very important. While studying and working you need to take care of your health. Sleep well and remember to rest enough. It will strengthen your immune system, benefit your memory, and help you cope with stress much better. Eat nutritious food throughout the day to keep your energy up. Take care of your body and it will take care of you. Have some exercise at the gym or at home or go for a walk. Physical exercise is an effective stress reliever. You can listen to music, watch movies or whatever makes you relax. Try to devote at least 30 minutes of your day to doing something you enjoy as a way to reduce stress.

So, it’s not mission impossible to study and work at the same time. But it’s all about good planning and time scheduling. And not to forget to take care of yourself.

At the end, I wanted to share some photo from Spain, where I lived for a while. I used to walk to that place quite often, especially at mornings. And I think the view was always so amazing.

A beautiful morning in Fuengirola.
