Studying & working full time
Studying and working full time. How hard can it be? Well, not that hard if you plan your days really well and focus all the time. Of course when work days might be long and during the busy season you might not have so many days off, it’s harder. Then it’s also okay to prioritize work before school for few months.
I didn’t study so much between November and December, because those are the busiest months in Lapland. I knew that I can manage if I study well before and after that.
Main thing about working full time and studying is finding a balance between them, and also try to find time yourself to rest and do your own things. Also planning is really important. My favorite thing is to use the old fashioned paper calendar, where I mark my school lessons and deadlines, work, training and all other stuff. That helps me to schedule my days.
This year I still haven’t got new calendar… Maybe that is the reason why I’m struggling with school and work at the moment. I need to put that in my shopping list!
On my days off I try do my school stuff in the mornings so I don’t have to stress for the whole day. Best thing is to sleep long, have a good breakfast, then study for a few hours and then enjoy for the rest of the day. We often have brunch with my friends, and then we study or work for a few hours. Also lunch dates and studying is best!
It is also good if you have a good relationship with your employer, if you need to have some days off, or you have some important lessons at school that you need to take apart. Usually many employers are flexible with empolyees studying at the same time, especially if it’s the same industry.
When studying and working at the same time, it is also important to take care of your mental and physical health. Don’t overload yourself and try to keep a good balance.
