Tourism industry offers many opportunities. Sometimes you just might find a job that takes you away. For me it all happened accidentally as I wondered where should I work at the summertime.
My previous summers
During the summers I work at an adventure park called Pakka. We offer customers great experiences in the form of activities. It’s a place to have an active day with your family. We have a lot of domestic tourists but from time to time we also get foreign people visiting us.
Pakka resides in Kalajoki. Kalajoki is a fairly small town in Northern Ostrobothnia, Finland. I feel like Kalajoki is a nice place to spend the summer time. You can live close to the sea, there are many restaurants, activities and an awesome atmosphere.
My new winter adventure
I’m a bit worried I might be a workaholic. I wanted to work in the winter time as well. Being active, enjoying the nature and just being outside are things I cherish. In conclusion I decided to apply for a safari guide job at Lapland Safaris.
Lapland Safaris has a lot of customers over the season. Especially in December when there is the Christmas season. Me myself I’m not that big of a Christmas person. I was happy I didn’t accidentally apply for being an elf otherwise I would have been the grumpy one.
Working at Lapland Safaris has been great but at the same time different. Big company with foreign colleagues have made the experience much different than previous jobs. The feeling is completely new and exciting. The amount of tourists is huge in addition. That is new for me too because in the summers we don’t have a rush of tourists like Rovaniemi.
What binds me to work in tourism?
For me working in the tourism industry is about the connection with people. Getting new friends, having wonderful colleagues and simply enjoying every day.
