Towards Graduating – International Destination Experience Project

Hi there, fellow classmates and teachers!

My name is Jasmin. Currently, I am studying for my last semester at Lapland UAS. I will be taking part in this International Destination Experience Project (IDEP) study unit and study tour to the Kainuu region. I live in Oulu, where I hope to begin my career here soon after graduating. Oulu is not similarly a tourism city as Rovaniemi. However, a tourist can find lots to do here around different areas. Especially in the smaller municipalities in the Oulu region.

I have just finished my advanced training a couple of months ago. I am about to finalize my thesis on employee induction quite soon as well. My advanced training was completed in Hotel-Restaurant Liminganlahti, a small and beautiful nature hotel in Liminka. It taught me a lot. Especially in multitasking and performing more advanced tasks. Also, what an environment it was <3

I am super excited to participate in this IDEP study unit. Moreover, I am glad to participate in the study tour organized in Kainuu and visiting Kajaani and Kuhmo. After moving to Oulu and still continuing with online studying, a study tour will be an awesome chance to see tourism in practice and implement our knowledge received from 3 full years of studies.

It is refreshing to learn something new. In particular, about this subject, as it is not my main interest. However, I think it is good to have a wide knowledge of the field. All the projects have really provided different kinds of knowledge such as organizing events and collaborating with partners. And now, this kind of intensive project related to literary tourism. It is great meeting people in real life as well!

Study tour to Kainuu region

Fun fact, I am originally from Kainuu, despite the municipality of Vaala now belongs to North Ostrobothnia. Anyhow, I am excited to return to Kainuu. Kajaani is a very familiar city for me. I lived there with my sister couple of months when I was 18. Kuhmo is not that familiar, even though I did participate in a school athletics competition there back in middle school.

Literary tourism as a concept is not hugely familiar for me. However, I am enthusiastic to learn about it, since I like reading anyway. And the story of Kalevala is compelling. The Spot-lit project seems a very suitable and interesting project to participate in, can’t wait! I aim to learn about literary tourism, learn more about the destinations of Kajaani and Kuhmo and then implement this knowledge in the next blog posts and then on the study tour. I am sure the trip will be successful. The next post will be about pre-experience, so stay tuned!

  1. Some tiny technical details:
You could make one of the photos a featured image (editor: bottom right)
Only one H1 allowed on a page. The title uses that. Therefore “Want to know…” should be H2.
Spell the tags as usual (Kainuu Study Tour with spaces)
Links should open on a new page so that the reader is not thrown out of the blog.
Some sentences are super long especially if you read the post on mobile screen.
ALT text missing from Liminka Bay photo at least.
