Welcome and shout out to all the DPT18 out there! My name is Khoa and let me tell you how Finland and I have gotten into our “coincident” destiny.

From Vietnam to Finland

As a typical Vietnamese girl, I used to live with my parents for 25 years in our vibrant hometown, Ho Chi Minh City. Like any other culture of Asian families, I was embraced with their love and care that I hid myself in a shell just to stay in my safe zone. As a result, I continued to be a normal girl with a stereotypical life until I had my first job at a French company with a diverse background of people, where I realized how much experiences and knowledge that I was missing.

So what? Get your backpack and discover the world. It was no doubt that Finland was a perfect choice at that moment to begin my journey, a far far away country, where the weather is totally opposite with Vietnam, where the culture is strange to me and where I can break my comfort zone and step into the world.

Nice to meet you, Finland!

Finland welcomed me to the most beautiful autumn season of the country with a clear sky and light wind. With all the trees falling into yellow, orange and red, you can eventually smell the breath of rain and wood mixed together and the cold bothered each inch of your skin. And yet, the winter at Rovaniemi, where I am studying at this moment, has to be mentioned. I guarantee with you that this place is an incredible creation of Mother Nature with snow covering all the trees and roads turning everything into a white work of art. What an unforgettable image that I have ever seen!

As a student of  Lapland UAS, I had the opportunity to work with Santa on my field trip, training in Spain and diversity projects with other commissioners. It is easy to take this opportunity to know more about the culture of Finland, participate in the traditional activities of students in school and organize projects such as GALA or Arctic Design Week. Thanks to those programs, I have collected tonnes of experience and gradually understood the people and culture of Finland.

Next chapter in my Journey!

For all of those experiences above, Finland and I will continue to accompany each other for a long time and grow up with the time. The next step for our story is that me and my classmate will join a study tour in Kainuu. We use what we have learnt to develop this destination into a new page. It is a shame that I cannot attend the trip to Kainuu and directly experience it, but thankfully, I have my friends to get my back with the pictures and videos to write more posts about this region.

For your information, my journey in Finland has nearly come to an end due to my last year of college. But who knows what will happen next right? I still have an appointment to Kainuu ahead. If you want to know more about me and my story in Finland, please check out my new posts.

How about you? How do you and Finland have the chance to know each other? Feel free to share with me your experiences in this country. Peace!

  1. Tiny details:
    * optimize the photo file names, also. Not ID179… but what the photo is about.
    * Do not use hashtags with #, just tags. Not at the end of the blog post but added with the tag tool (you have them twice). Write words with spaces “autumn in Finland” “find yourself”
    * the links should open on a new page. Now the reader is thrown out of the blog.
    * some grammar errors. It might be useful to install Grammarly.

    1. I tried several times to modify the name of the photo on my lap, but it would not change when I uploaded it to the blog. I didn’t understand why, and I haven’t figured out what the reason is yet.
