Hello again, welcome back to my blog! If this is your first visit, my name is Jun; you can know more about me here! I hope you stay healthy and full of energy for your new journeys in life. The global pandemic Covid-19 has been controlled in many countries, and life is returning to normal globally. If you plan a trip after a long period of social distancing, Kainuu, one of the best destinations for literary tourism in Finland, is never a bad choice.
Spot-lit Project
If you are interested in literary tourism, then the Spot-Lit project will undoubtedly be an exciting thing for you. The project lasted for 3 years from the start in 2018, promoting literary tourism in the Arctic region and Northern Periphery. Please check out their Spot-lit project website (English available) for discovering some product development ideas so far and updating the latest news!
Why will I go to Kainuu?
Our students will have the opportunity to visit the Kainuu as part of the study unit, where Elias Lönnrot initially compiled and edited the Kalevala in 1835. It also contains literary values of the Helkavirsiä-poetry collection and other Eino Leino’s works. When compared to one of the most famous Finnish destinations- Santa Clause, Kalevala is little known by domestic and international tourists despite its significant cultural heritage value. I am happy to see literary tourism promoted in the Kainuu area, especially for the young generation; the good cultural heritage is the value that people should preserve. You can find more information about Kainuu on the Wild Taiga website– the association consisting of approximately 60 tourism-related businesses primarily located in eastern Kainuu.
While visiting the Kainuu region, I recommend a few places containing the value, literary spirit in Kajaani and Kulmo:
- Eino Leino House
- Kaukametsä Culture and Congress Centre
- Juminkeko
- The Elias Lönnrot statue
- Hotel Kalevala
Check out these places; I guarantee you won’t be disappointed. If you know more cool places here, please share them with me in the comment below!
