Hello and welcome back dear readers!

I am going to take part in a trip to Kainuu- region. The aim of the trip is to familiarize myself and the other students to the possibilities and current limitations of the region as a literary destination. The Kainuu- region is located in central Finland along the eastern border. The region offers natural beauty and is rich in historical sites. The focus of this trip is literature tourism. Kainuu is a great destination for that since the Finnish epic – Kalevala, was based and written there. The region is also the workplace of such Finnish literature greats such as Eino Leino and Elias Lönnrot.

Kainuu as a destination

As mentioned before Kainuu offers unique and culturally significant sites. Whether it be from a standpoint of literature, medieval history or war history Kainuu has a great variety of interesting destinations to visit. We can not also forget the great nature sites based on the multiple national parks in the area as well as skiing possibilities. History of the region can be observed all the way from the early stages of history up until modern times. Kainuu offers rock paintings from the stone ages, medieval fortifications, old tar canals and actual battlefields and sites from the second world war.

My expectations for the trip

My main expectations for the trip are to get to know the tourism operators in the area. I want to learn the range of the services they provide and how well they are executed. I want to how the local operators are displaying the Kalevala- theme. Are the tourism operators allowing the visitors to use their own imagination and letting the visitor experience the natural settings? Marketing towards international customers is also one of my points of interest.

Personally I am exited to visit the region and some sites on my top list before the visit are:

Overall I am expecting to learn a lot about the region on this trip. It is very refreshing to be able to travel again after a long break. I am very exited for this trip! Thank you for taking the time to read my post and keep exploring!
