When searching on the internet, Kuhmo develops as a lovely literary tourism destination. However, going through my classmates’ blog posts on their actual experiences with Kuhmo, it does not appear to have the atmosphere of a literary tourist destination. Follow me on my blog and I’ll show you the highlights of my friend’s tour in Kuhmo.
Literature Tourism
The city of Kuhmo has been designated as a city of literature of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. Previously only one Finnish city – Helsinki with its status of UNESCO design city, – belonged to the network. When it comes to real-world experience, Kuhmo appears to have the characteristics of a literary tourist destination, but Kuhmo is unable to capitalize on those characteristics to highlight their strengths in literature tourism. Let’s watch this video to find out why.
Essentially, we found no evidence of literary tourism. Indeed, my classmates said that they did not feel Kuhmo was a city of literature although it has magnificent locations such as the hotel Kalevala and the Trojan Horse. The city will need to design a comprehensive strategy that involves local government, residents, and stakeholders. With appropriate policies, the local government can help Kuhmo become a literature tourist destination. Moreover, stakeholders and local residents may use such policies to improve their services and attract more customers.
Kuhmo as a Tourism Destination
In my opinion Kuhmo is underinvested in the tourism business. Kuhmo appears to be a regular city in my classmate’s photos and videos. Although, after doing some research on the internet, I discovered that there are things that I could schedule for my visit. However, in order to attract tourists, a tourism destination must emphasize itself with advertising banners, decorations, and obvious services. We can clearly observe the contrasts in how the city arranged itself to become a tourist attraction when looking at Rovaniemi city.
After all, Kuhmo is still a lovely destination to visit with a wonderful core value. Still, it will require the attention of local government, residents, and stakeholders to turn it into a famous literature tourism destination.
