Hello, it’s Leslie here again 😉 I believe that DPT18 had had an amazing trip to Kainuu region. Unfortunately, I didn’t have chance to participate in the study tour due to Covid-19 pandemic. Indeed, after having done some researches about the destination on the Internet and having read classmates’ blogs, I would like to share some thoughts about the challenges and opportunities of this place to develop.
Challenges and Limitations of Kainuu region
I have read some blogs about Kainuu region from Ricky, Liisa, Milla, and Marc, and I realized that the destination has a lot of limitations that need to be improved in order to develop in the long-term. Ricky pointed out that there are many beautiful and interesting places which still remain unpopular to the tourists, as well as the tourism projects and products are quite limited. Milla stated that the target customers for the literary tourism is not defined clearly, leading to lack of effective strategy. Additionally, Marc said that networking in the destination seems not to be coherent, the work was left only to the private enterprises. All these limitations make Kainuu region remain unpopular, less attractive to the tourists.
Besides, Kainuu region is not marketed successfully on the Internet. To be more specific, on the website and fanpage of the destination, the visitor guiding as well as the accessibility of information is limited, visitor involvement and multisensory perceptions are not supported at all.
Hmm, It sounds like there is a large amount of work need to be done for this destination?
Opportunities for development
Despite those limitations mentioned above, I still believe that Kainuu region has potentials and opportunities to develop more in the future. The destination itself includes many unique landscapes, attractions differentiating from other places. The region requires researches, development projects, as well as funding and support in order to develop in right direction. Especially, networking between public and private stakeholders need to be emphasized and developed, since the whole tourism destination can not be left only for any single enterprise!!!
Is this place worth a visit?
Honestly, at first the Kainuu region did not catch my attention at all, since I’m not a literature or history lover and tourism activities offered in the place sounds quite boring to me. However, the study tour and researches about this destination somehow changed my mind. At least, I would give this place a visit if I had a chance, and I would suggest some development recommendations if possible. How about you? Are you willing to give Kainuu region a chance to explore? Check out many blogs of my classmates about the region, or visit the website of Kainuu region for more information.
