Previously, he served as a Project Assistant Professor at Wakayama University, Japan, where he organized and developed community-based learning projects, namely the Local Partnership Program (LPP). His involvement in the LPP inspired his current PhD research, which examines the role of field courses in tourism education beyond workforce development for the tourism industry. Centred on relational ethics and pedagogy, his research seeks to imagine and explore alternative, caring, and relational ways of doing tourism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trained as an interdisciplinary tourism researcher, Daijiro specializes in qualitative methodologies such as ethnography and newspaper analysis. His previous research focused on inbound tourism and rural tourism development in Japan, exploring themes like shopping tourism, fashion and aesthetics in rural settings, and urban-rural lifestyle mobilities.
