Last week I participated in the Learning Café held on 20th of September. We were divided into groups, each group with 5-6 students had its own topic. Topics were Branding, Social Media Marketing, Content Marketing and Moment of Truth. Students were given a task to study the reading material and prepare reaction papers for the Learning Café.
What did I learn about home group article?
Our group’s reading material was “26 Tips to Create a Strong Social Media Content Strategy” by Debbie Hemley. The article shows a useful guide for those would like to build a strong and successful marketing strategy in social media. The topics have been divided within our group. My part was about main rules to start building media content strategy. I am familiar with a notion of branding and digital media strategy, yet I have found a lot helpful information. I have learned about Leo Widrich’s tactics related to increasing the number of daily updates. The tactic is relevant for both big brands and bloggers, it is important to have a clear vision how media content works on different social media platforms. Companies should know their target audience better than anybody else to make wise decisions in developing media content strategy.
What were the main points our home group came up to?
To be successful, companies or brand should
- have a clear vision about the company’s goals relating to social media content / have a clear picture for whom (target customer) where (social media network) and why (goals and brand message) the content is created
- build long-term positive relationships with customers by real interaction
- follow social media updates and trends
- use storytelling / build emotional connections with customers, avoid complex language, talk less and listen more, be prepared to get a feedback
- increase the frequency of posts depending on social media platform
- use social media metrics
Did I disagree in some points with my group members?
During our discussion we touched on several points related to our topic. I may say that I agree with opinions of my group mates, yet I would like to note that all guidelines described in the article should be customized, different businesses should find an individual approach. For instance, B2B and B2C companies have specific goals in mind.
What did I learn about the other groups’ issues?
To build a successful marketing strategy, it is essential to
- Be unique
- Use multiple channels
- Stay relevant, analyse market needs and trends
- Build strong and positive customer relationship
- Use metrics
- Study customer behavior
How did I like Learning Café as a learning method?
Learning Café is an innovative education method. It helps students to develop communicative abilities, share own knowledge and thoughts openly and in an informal atmosphere, to work on a task individually and as a team.
