The Rievdan project\u2019s art workshops kicked off in great co-design spirit\u00a0 12-14th May, 2025!<\/strong><\/div>\n

The two-year project is led by Professor Mirja Hiltunen from the Faculty of Art and Design at the University of Lapland. Korinna Korsstr\u00f6m-Magga serves as project researcher and coordinator, and Ante Jalvela as research assistant. The first workshops were also facilitated by art education students Virve Pietil\u00e4 and Kasper Kujansuu from the University of Lapland. The art workshops inspired pupils from schools in K\u00e1r\u00e1\u0161johka (Karasjok) and Vuoh\u010d\u010du \u00a0(Vuotso), as well as other local participants, to share their thoughts on the meanings and impacts of change.\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

In the next photos pupils in K\u00e1r\u00e1\u0161johka are reflecting on places important to them using maps, and creating their own artistic representations on cards at the S\u00e1mi D\u00e1iddaguovdd\u00e1\u0161 (SDG), the S\u00e1mi Center for Contemporary Art<\/strong>, which is one of our key partners in the project.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second part of the workshops was to film and record participants with their cards<\/strong>, Ante facilitated these activities<\/strong> with the help of pupils.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here we researchers and art students are posing in \u00c0nar (Inari), inside the Sarvilaavu at the Sajos courtyard on May 13, on our journey from K\u00e1r\u00e1\u0161johka to Vuoh\u010d\u010du.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Vuoh\u010d\u010du the school is one of our key partners.<\/strong> We also collaborate actively with the other local residents, elderly people as well as S\u00e1mi Children\u2019s Culture Center M\u00e1nnu<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All in all, the first workshops exceeded our expectations, and a big thank you to all the participants for that! We learned a lot of new things about both <\/strong>K\u00e1r\u00e1\u0161johka and Vuoh\u010d\u010du, as well as about the lives of the locals there. We are already looking forward to the next art workshops with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
