The new season and year have started at the University’s Gallery Valo at the Arktikum. The Rievdan working group took part in the N\u00e4kyv\u00e4ksi tehty (eng. Made to be seen) art exhibition with a piece called R\u00e1hkis b\u00e1iki<\/em>. (eng. Beloved place). The exhibition is the annual exhibition of the Faculty of Arts from the University of Lapland, showcasing the artistic work of the faculty’s employees. The exhibition has been curated by visual artist and lecturer Marika Orenius from the University of the Arts Helsinki.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

R\u00e1hkis b\u00e1iki consists of three parts: l\u00e1vvu rods, cards made in the workshops, and sound. Korinna and Mirja acquired the rods and designed the structure, while Ante compiled a soundtrack from the sounds recorded in the workshops during the spring, which plays continuously inside the installation. The cards are from the workshops held in spring in K\u00e1r\u00e1\u0161johka and Vuoh\u010d\u010du.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project group tested the l\u00e1vvu construction in Rovaniemi before setting it up in the gallery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The soundtrack has two parts: the first part is all about the participants’ voices. The workshop participants read their card’s texts out loud, which Ante recorded. The second part is the soundscape of the village of Vuoh\u010d\u010du, which Ante also recorded during the first trip in spring. All the sounds were arranged to form a loop that plays continuously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
