Arktinen nokkonen (ARKNOKK) -hankkeessa kehitetään perinteistä ja luonnonmukaista viljelyä jo olemassa olevien nokkostuotteiden raaka-aineeksi ja uusien tuotteiden kehittämistä varten. Lisäksi käynnistetään yhteistyö ja luodaan arvoverkosto nokkosen tuotantoon ja jalostukseen lopputuotteeksi. Hankkeessa myös testataan ainutlaatuisesti nokkosen hyödyntämistä porojen talviruokinnassa.
Tavallisen poltinkarvaisen isonokkosen (Urtica dioica) lisäksi ARKNOKK-hankkeessa kartoitetaan harvinaisemman, poltinkarvattoman alalajin, pohjannokkosen (Urtica dioica ssp. sondenii) hyödyntämismahdollisuuksia. Hanke vahvistaa ja monipuolistaa lappilaista luonnontuotealaa
Hanke toteutetaan 01.03.2020 – 30.09.2023 välisenä aikana. Hankeen päätoteuttajana toimii Luonnonvarakeskus ja osatoteuttajana Lapin ammattikorkeakoulu. Lisäksi hankkeen toteutuksessa on mukana erikoiskasvituotannon, maa- ja porotalouden, luonnontuotealan, viestinnän, tutkimuksen ja biotalouden toimijoita.
The Arctic Nettle project (ARKNOKK) will develop traditional organic cultivation methods for growing nettle to be used as the raw material for already existing products and new products to be developed. In addition, cooperation will be started and a value chain for the production and refining of nettle into end products will be created. The project will also test unique utilisation of nettle in the winter feeding of reindeer.
In addition to the common stinging nettle (Urtica dioica), the project will survey the opportunities to utilise a rarer northern subspecies that does not have stinging hairs (Urtica dioica ssp. sondenii). The project will promote Lapland’s organic product industry and make it more versatile.
The project period is from 1 March 2020 to 30 September 2023. Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) is in charge of the project in cooperation with the Lapland University of Applied Sciences. Other parties involved in the project are from the fields of specialised crop production, agriculture, reindeer husbandry, natural products, communication, research and the bioeconomy.
