Nowadays people are using social media to find information, learn, shop, and engage with other people. Therefore, businesses should consider social media more and more when they are trying to grow their business. To learn more about what works in social media, Hubspot did a survey where they interviewed more than 1200 marketers. Based on this survey, Hubspot collected social media top trends. The article included top 10 social media trends for brands and focuses on how brands can leverage social media for growth.
The trends are for instance about selling in social media, customer service, influencers and what kind of content works in social media. The trends were introduced and explained, but there were also statistics, real-life examples and experts’ comments.
As a marketer, it is important to know the trends in social media marketing. This study unit is a lot about digital marketing, and it is easier to understand the topic when you understand the relevant trends. Most of these trends can be applied to tourism business and tourism marketing. It is also relevant to the Study Unit themes because we are going to discuss social media, digital marketing, and marketing planning during the next weeks.
One thing that has been obvious for several years, and the article proved even more is the fact that social media is becoming more and more important for businesses. Another claim that was seen multiple times, is the fact that Instagram is the most important social media channel for marketers. And I agree with this one. Tiktok is growing more and more , but I feel like Instagram is still the best place for marketing.
I could relate to almost all these trends. When they talked about Gen Z and how they act in social media, I could imagine myself doing the same. I use social media for customer service a lot and ask questions for example in Instagram or Facebook. I also agree with the claims that funny and relatable content stands out in social media. If the content is too serious, I probably won’t react to it or interact with it.
One thing that surprised was the trend about influencer marketers ditching celebrities for micro-influencers. I prefer celebrities over influencers, because I trust celebrities more than influencers. But I can see why maybe it’s the other way around with other people. When I think about it, I feel like influencers could market products they don’t actually like more likely than celebrities.
Another interesting point was the fact that social media is the future of ecommerce. The integration of ecommerce directly into social media platforms shows a significant shift in consumer behavior and it is reshaping the online shopping experience. I can’t see myself buying something from Instagram or Tiktok for instance. As the article also said, I don’t trust these stores enough.
Next interesting claim is the use of AI in content creation. This is transforming the industry by making content creation more efficient. The report suggests that AI is not just a trend but a necessary tool for marketers. I don’t know how I feel about this. Like the report said, consumers like content that they can relate to. However, if the content is created by AI, is it missing the real human emotions that consumers can relate to. I have to admit that I’m also a little bit scared of AI and its role in marketing.
Reading this article, I learned that brands that can effectively combine the trends shown in the article are likely to thrive in the coming years. You can see in the report that social media is continuously evolving, and marketers or anyone involved in digital marketing need to stay informed about these changes. The article also compared a lot of different age groups, so I learned that when we talk about social media marketing, it is important to analyze and look at generational differences.
The trends are changing continuously. I’m interested to see which social media channels will be on the top in a few years. I also want to see how my own consumer behaviour will change. It is interesting to see the trends in the future, and how they have changed from these trends.

Hello! Great blog post, thank you! I pretty much agree with everything you do. I think TikTok is the app people use to spend time and Instagram is the app where people search for something they need or want, so a better place for marketing. Speaking of marketing, I do feel like there’s so much diversity with the micro-influencers and celebrities and their sensibility or how they are willing to make money that I wouldn’t trust a person based on how big of a celebrity or an influencer they are. If a celebrity or an influencer is trying to sell you something new every week, it’s a red flag. I think it’s important to evaluate people individually.
