Kierinki

Hello everyone,

In this blog post I will tell you something about our visit to beautiful village in middle of Lapland called Kierinki. This village is located 100 kilometers north from Rovaniemi. The bus ride was interesting because of how this village is isolated. At first it seemed like an abandoned place with few houses and a farm in the middle of it. Upon a second look we saw beautifully renovated buildings and a gas station which was an indication that someone lives in that place.

In the next few sentences I will introduce you to the history of this place. The first inhabitants of this area were foresters who settled there around 1760´s. They lived in simple wooden shelters without any chimneys. The village started to grow in the beginning of 20th century when locals started their own company called  “Mylly” which in finish means mill. The first school was opened in 1914 , and in 1927 the villagers started to work towards connecting Kierinki to the road network which they after some complications achieved in 1935.

On the companies website they describe Kierinki as a idyllic Lappish village which in my opinion is a great description with which I couldn’t agree more. Kierinki is also a meeting point for local reindeer herders, loggers and farmers. From what I have seen this description is more than accurate , the owners were super nice and did not hesitate to answer any of our questions. They offer accommodation not only in apartments but also in tents or caravans. They use service called booking.com which makes booking really simple. The variety of places in which you can stay is astonishing. There is a newly build hotel opened recently with 12 2-person rooms common area and also sauna for customers. Another places in which you can stay I will mention only by name. There is Grandmothers cabin and holiday village around which tents can be built. Kierinki also has a restaurant in which they offer local meals typical to the area not only geographically but also in terms of local ingredients. One of the most interesting places there was a bar named “Pub in Barn”, unfortunately the bar is open only during special occasions. Probably the greatest experience was the feeding of cows with bread. Those cows were something that I have never seen before, they had a long fur which offers them protection against the harsh Lappish weather.

In conclusion I got to say how cool this visit was. My thanks go to the owners who were really cool and not afraid to answer any of our questions, who were really hospitable and caring.

Lappset group

Hey dear friends.

Last week we have been visited be a person from local company called Lappset group. The lady who works in the marketing department of the company mentioned above. Lappset group is a company which makes sportparks, playgrounds and other outdoor equipment. The company employs 400 people in 3 factories and has 14 subsidiares in 9 countries such as USA, China, France and others. They have already build plenty of playgrounds and sportsparks. Their main clients are landscape architects who already have a vision of how it should look like and Lappset group manufactures for them the equipment just as the architect wanted. Thats why every park is unique and serves not only children but also adults and seniors.

What I really enjoyed was Lappset groups has acceptable marketing plan. They do a lot of stuff to get better brand perception among the public. Their action plan is divided among four seasons focusing on building brand awareness and Lappset solutions. They focus on visual marketing where marketing department works in cooperation with photographers to make brochures which can be printed on paper or uploated to their website. They also organize events such as meetings and customer visits. Another cool part of their marketing was that they cooperate with professional sportsman who write blogs for them about the importance of their equipment for healthy lifestyle. Its a great way to do marketing because even if the people dont know the brand thay maybe know the people who create blogposts. This is a great way to get the people to be aware of your brand.

I have learned some useful stuff from the Lappset visitor on how they do their marketing. This visit was highly enjoyable and really educative.

Social Media Marketing

Hey dear friends.

Since last week I have  learned a lot about Social media marketing and it’s uses for marketing of today. There were many interesting things but the most interesting point was about Google Analytics and it’s uses in modern marketing. Within my group we chose some of the more interesting points that were mentioned in the article on which we decided to make our presentation. These points were mostly about uses of social media as a way to promote your product..

One of the points which was mentioned in the article was the use of infographics as a way to explain the topic because they are easy to understand, consume and share, that is  why we decided to make our presentation in a infographic form. Another crucial  point was about the use of hashtags in social media and in advertising campaigns. Hashtags are mostly used on social media such as Twitter or Instagram. These sites offer a great way to see how many times the hashtag was used and if the advertising campaign was successful based just on the number of users using hashtags.

This project  of course was not  without some disagreements mostly focused on the use of Image search engines which are not that important in many cases. In the end we decided to mention it anyway in case that other people do not know what are image search engines about.

People in the other groups made some great presentations about many interesting subjects. For me the most interesting one was about digital marketing but out of this topic the most interesting points which were mentioned where about mobile marketing and the importance of advertising on mobile phones.

To be honest i really love the Learning Café as a learning method. My home university does not offer this method in the educational curriculum which is a shame because i think this a great method to learn new information not only about the topic i was presenting but also about the work of others in class.

Thank you very much for reading this blog post i hope you enjoyed reading it.
