In October 2021 I was planning on going on a road trip to Estonia with two friends of mine. When we think about Estonia it is usually Tallinn we mean. When one of my friends suggested Estonia to be our destination, my first thought was “Why Estonia? What is there?”. But we all agreed with Estonia and started searching for possible locations to visit. We got so many options but unfortunately, we were not able to visit all of them. Here I listed my favorite stops from the trip. I would highly recommend you to visit these places. Without getting lost in Estonia.
Old Town Tallinn
The Old Town in Tallinn is an amazing. The narrow streets and colourful close to each other located buildings offer a great and historical view and you can enjoy the walks around the town. It is also full of small shops and restaurants to stop by.
Jängla Waterfall
Jängla waterdfall is located in the lower course or the Jängla river. It is a park where you can enjoy the nature and a nice walk around. You can see the waterfall from the top cliff. And, just like this photo has taken next to the waterfall. The waterfall is quite big, the hight is around 8 meters and the wide is around 50 meters. It is the widest waterfall in Estonia. It is not too far away from Tallinn.
Narva
Narva is a city right in the Russian border. In this phot the left side is Estonian, and the right-side castle is already Russian. The bridge is the border. This was a rainy day, so the view was limited but still it was beautiful during the day. During the night the lights made it look quite mysterious.
Tartu, Old Town
The old town in Tartu is beautiful. The streets are quite narrow and offer a peaceful walk during the day, but also beautiful city light offer a calming night walk. The autumn colours in the trees brought a nice feature to the colourful buildings in the town.
Pesapuu
Pesapuu watchtower is 30 meters high. It has a really nice view, even when it is a rainy and cloudy weather you can see quite far. The name pesapuu comes from the form it is constructed. Estonian word “pesa” means nest, is very similar to finnish one. The tower looks like two bird nests in different levels of height.
Taagepera castle
This place was more like a spontaneous stop on our trip. Taagepera castle is a hotel. We also checked it out and they had quite affordable prices. They also have a restaurant there. This place is apparently very common to host different kind of events. We were looking around putside and inside the castle. We even got to go to the highest tower, there had an amazing view for the countryside and forest.
Viljandi
Right next to the ruins in Viljandi there is this bridge. The bridge goes between hills you can do a small hike. The bridge is quite long and if you look down it is only green field. We didn’t find it first but when we did it was worth of the little difficult trail we took there.
Viljandi is a town in Southern-Estonia. The town has historical buildings, and it is giving Medieval vibes. Only a walk in a town centre is a nice way to spend an evening. In Viljandi there are a ruins from a Medieval castle that was destroyed during the world wars. To get to the ruins you need to climb to a hill and there is a very beautiful landscapes through Viljandi.
Rummu
Rummu is an old prison in water. But nowadays it is more a beach area that has is very clear and clean water. Also there are huge sand dunes, which you can enjoy to see. There is an entrance fee which is 4 euros. There is also cute little café that serves snacks but also small lunch. The owner is very nice and made customers feel welcome.
Keila Waterfall
Keila waterfall is 3rd larges waterfall in Estonia. It locates in the North-Estonia, a bit more that 30 kilometres from Tallin. Keila waterfall is close to a Keila city.
Have you ever been in Estonia? Would you like to go there? I would like to hear your experiences and abut the locations you have been in.
Good introduction to Estonia. The photo filenames were not optimised (containing keywords). The photos could have been bigger, as wide as the paragraphs. Any links to websites that explain more about these sights?
