Why are we always busy?

If you are reading this blog because it is a part of your study, congratulation, you can be proud that you are one of 7.9 billion people out there responsible for your better life.

This blog does not aim for giving useful advice or coveying any educational messages, this is just a reminder from a normal girl living 22 years in this world: slowing down a bit if you feel yourself moving too fast!

Was born in Vietnam – a Southeast Asian country with quite many conservative social standards, I grow up with the belief: without moving fast, I will be left behind. Since I was a child, I spent most of my time at school cramming tons of theories which I barely remember anything at the moment. Exams are countless, and they are relatively hard (this point of view depends heavily on personal perspective). I can consider myself a “busy person” from a young age. Hence, with this limited experience, I can share some reasons why I am (possibly we) always “busy”.

1. To avoid

My family belongs to the middle class, which means we are just normal citizens in society with a modest income and normal lifestyle. Unfortunately, my parent still has certain expectations of their children: Without trying your best at school, you will know your consequences. The one and the only reason why I kept trying at school is to avoid the punishment from my parent. Even though hanging out or doing some stupid things were what I dreamt of since I was a child, I still tried really hard at school for the sake of my safety. 😀

And when I am not even a child anymore, sometimes I still keep myself busy to avoid overthinking. That is also how people do to keep themselves away from “unwanted” thoughts.

2. To feel good

The effort for achieving good performance during primary school gives me momentum to keep trying in my next two phases – secondary and high school time. Time flies, and the thing has changed. For this period of my lifetime, I start having my own awareness of what I am doing. Instead of avoiding punishment, I strived for the sake of my own good. I feel valued when having some achievements at school. I love seeing how I make progress and become better every single day. Being busy in this phase simply gives me the feeling of accomplishment and self-pride.

3. To be me

It is funny and sad at the same time that despite all of my efforts, I am still lost knowing what I really want to do in my life. In a short way, I have no purpose in life; if yes, those are just expectations that parents/ society apply on me.  Since having no clue why I am so busy, I start slowing down and spending more me-time. I was lazy, I did nothing but lie on the bed, I enjoyed Netflix, a lot. But at the end of the day, I mostly felt tired. That moment brings me the idea of the purpose I mentioned above. Being busy simply is to be me, to feel myself moving forward, to show that I am still living, my own life.

If you are still reading until this line, you possibly belong to one of these groups. (1) you are my friend and reading showing your support to me; thank you so much! (2) you can also be my friend but somehow the topic touches you because recently you have been feeling unwell about everything. Hi friend, we are the same. Let’s be lazy, to know how happy are we to be productive again!

P.s

Mentioning “productive”, I hope you don’t have a common misunderstanding like me. If yes, this video might be useful:

Thank you so much for your patience!
