May 16, 2022 | Communication, Exhibition

We have reached the point where we can start sharing and disseminating the results of the Struve North project in wider scale. Our three-year project culminates in Struve Exhibition which covers all the stories, presentations and new digital solutions related to Struve Geodetic Arc. Exhibition opened in Tornio on April 11 and it will be available until early May in the Rajalla Shopping center. In the opening ceremony in Tornio many representatives of the project partners spoke about the importance of the world heritage and cultural heritage and also what is the connection and meaning of development projects in promoting those. In this project we have worked upon the preservation of cultural heritage in many ways and it is all now coming to life in this exhibition.

Backstage workshop for new ideas

After the opening speeches people walked around to see the exhibition. They had some coffee and sweets and also an opportunity to ask more and discuss with the project specialists. Behind the actual exhibition area, we had also a place for workshop and idea creation.

In the workshop we discussed widely about the exploitation: How could digital solutions related about the Struve Geodetic Arc be utilized in tourism? How could the cultural heritage issues in general be included in tourism services?

We also talked about the cultural heritage of the Tornio Valley and listed the places, destinations and activities where people take their visitors in Tornio. What are the most Tornio Valley things they want to show for visitors? The compiled list covered for example Kukkola rapids, Tornedal&Company [http://tornedalandcompany.com/], Haparanda beach and also sightseeing tour visiting all the familiar places (former school, former home building etc).

The former ideas created in the previous workshops and seminars are also part of the exhibition. You can find triangular paper cones on a table and choose your favorite ones. After Tornio shopping center the exhibition will tour around the nordics visiting Övertorneå in Sweden, Enontekiö & Ylläs in Finland and Hammerfest in Norway.
